The best Japanese rice : Story

I think Japanese people eat rice in staple food. Its typical is onigiri, rice ball ,I think. However in Japan there are some kind of rice. And there are different in taste. So, in this article, I will introduce the kind and the No.1 recommended rice.

1. Introduction of Japanese rice

First of all I will introduce some of famous Japanese rice. So you can have a knowledge about Japanese rice. Because it is better that you know about them, than not know.So let's learn about Japanese rice.

1-1. Koshihikari ( Niigata prefecture )

Koshihikari should be very famous rice's brand. And many people love the taste. It is high class rice, so sometimes it could be used as special gift. Actually, Koshihikari is so delicious, so the menu I recommended is onigiri with salt tasted. Actually, you can the rice as another menus curry rice or piraf, I don't recommend.
By the way Koshihikari is made in another prefecture. So you can have Koshihikari in another place, Tokyo, Osaka, and so on.However, I think eating in Niigata is the best. Because in Niigata, there are many seafood from Sea of Japan. Then you can have various good experience, I think

1-2. Akitakomachi ( Akita prefecture )

Akitakomachi is made in Akita prefecture. And its very popular. This rice is a little soft. So it should be recommended for people who like soft food. And, nowadays Akitakomachi is a material of Kiritanpo. So if you go to Akita prefecture in winter, I recommend challenge Kiritanpo nabe. Then you can enjoy Akitakomachi rice and Kiritanpo nabe. But Akita's winter is too cold. Take care!


1-3. Sasanishiki ( Miyagi prefecture )

Sasanishiki is made in Miyagi prefecture. Sasanishiki is developed long time ago, before Akitakomachi. So in old generation when Akitakomachi has not been developed, Sasanishiki was about the same of Koshihikari. However, I think Sasanishiki is one of the best rice in Tohoku region.

1-4. Hinohikari ( Oita prefecture )

Hinohikari is made in Oita prefecture. And Hinohikari is improved from Koshihikari. But Hinohikari is more economic than Koshihikari. But, Hinohikari is similar to Koshihikari, in taste. So, it is friendly for buying it.

1-5. Tsuyahime ( Yamagata prefecture )

Tuyahime is in Yamagata prefecture. And many people like Tuyahime rather than Koshihikari. In Tohoku region, very good rice there are, Akitakomachi and Sasanishiki.But by breeding of Tuyahime, it was big change in rice market, I guess.

1-6. Yumepirika ( Hokkaido )

Yumepirika is made in Hokkaido. Hokkaido is north island so its very cold. Then, it is a little mismatched in agriculture. So people doesn't recognize Hokkaido's rice is delicious. However by development of Yumepirika, Hokkaido's rice has get good recognition. Nowadays, Yumepirika is popular rice on many place.

2. Which is the best rice?

In conclusion, the best rice should be Koshihikari!
Koshihikari is preferred many people of Japanese. The number of people is the majority of Japanese people. And Koshihikari is used as gift, I think another brand of rice would not be gifts.
 Anyway, if you can have a opportunity to visit Niigata prefecture. I strongly recommend, have a Koshihikari, as onigiri.

3. How to eat best condition of rice

Perhaps you might think that it is same where eating Tokyo or Niigata. Actually the Koshihikari, you can eat Tokyo. Many restaurant have Koshihikari for meal. However, have you ever thought about when you will eat, old rice or new rice? So new rice is better. So the rice should be eaten, when polished, immediately.
Then it is more priority to eat in Niigata than Tokyo. Because, usually rice is shiped after polish. And there might be long period from polished to eating. It would be bad situation. But, if you go to Niigata, you have a chance that you could have fresh rice that has polished just before. I have heard fresh rice is very delicious, but looking for fresh rice is very difficult in another prefecture like Tokyo. So in Niigata is best!
